Journal 2: Beowulf, the hero versus Alice, the hero from Alice in Wonderland

Topic:  Beowulf is the archetype of the dragon slayer, the hero who faces death in order to save a threatened community. Does Beowulf remind you of any heroes in real life, in fiction, or in the movies today? What characteristics do the heroes share?

Beowulf slays the beast known as Grendel. Grendel is a blood-thirsty monster. He reminds me of Alice in the remake of Alice in Wonderland. At the end of Alice in Wonderland, Alice kills the Jabberwocky, which is a beast. She fights the battle of Underland in order to put the White Queen back into power, and banish the Red Queen. Beowulf kills Grendel to protect King Hrothgar’s people. They share the characteristic of courage. They both want to stand up for what is right, and they are both willing to fight for it.
